5 Key Factors When It Comes To Designing Your Stairs

If you have decided to take the leap and design your own stairs you must be very excited and maybe a little nervous especially if you have never designed your own stairs before. Thankfully we have put together this list to help you along the way. Below you will find a list of the top five key factors to consider when it comes to designing stairs here in Melbourne.

Budget – We have put this as the first key factor because when designing anything yourself you run the risk of going from an affordable project to a very expensive project quickly if you are not careful. We recommend hashing out a budget before you even begin planning that way you know where you need to be and can keep it in mind as you design.
Space – The second most important factor to remember is probably the amount of space you have available. The last thing you want to have happened is you design a stunning set of stairs only to find they won’t fit in your space. Remember the key rule…measure twice and cut once.
Safety – If you have children or older adults or even pets, for example, you will want to make sure the design of your stairs is such that those who may have issues travelling up or down them can do so safely. Handrails are a wonderful way to add safety to the stairs. You also don’t want to have steep or curvy or thin stairs if you have individuals in the home that may not be able to use them safely.
Home – The design and layout of your home along with the style of your home should also be a consideration when you are designing your staircase. You will want a set of stairs that will be a complement to your home and your style.

As with anything as you are working on your design you can always seek out the help of the professionals, get multiple opinions and take lots of photos to help keep your on track with the process of designing your home’s new staircase.
