At S&A, we bring a modern aesthetic to classic stair design, combining the best of modern technology with design elements that have existed for centuries. In stair building, hand crafted elements like scrolls, wreaths, and posts have always been a signpost of a stair’s style and era. But while there has been a shift in recent times to a modern aesthetic throughout Australia, there are several key components to classic design that always remain. That is the hand crafted elements like continuous handrail, feature posts and landings, and the use of materials like Australian hardwoods and timber or decorative steel balusters.
At S&A, we have a long history in creating stairs to suit classic and period architecture. Our stairs vary significantly in style, ranging from curved, U-shaped, or L-shaped stairs to straight stairs between walls. In all of our projects, there is a collision between traditional features and modern technology. We always strive to maintain the traditional components of our design, while making sure they comply with modern safety standards and implement new technology that makes stairs more robust, safe and efficient.
